Music Minister

St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Lakewood, WA

St. Mary’s Episcopal Church seeks a skilled musician who is passionate about connecting people to God in Christ within the Episcopal tradition through a variety of music styles.

Responsibilities:

• Be a part of the leadership team under the Rector, assisting on the musical aspect of our worship in the context of the mission and vision of St. Mary’s
• Lead a variety of musical styles, including both a traditional choir and a contemporary band with organ, guitar, drums, chant, brass, strings, and other musicians as needed
• Lead the musical aspect of worship and play and/or sing for Sunday worship with regularly scheduled traditional and contemporary songs and solos
• Lead music for special services during Christmas, Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, and other planned special days in the year
• Cultivate new musicians for the choir and/or praise band from the congregation
• Plan and lead special services several times per year

Qualifications:

• A passion for leading God’s people in the worship of our Savior
• An appreciation for a wide diversity of musical styles, along with a either a working knowledge of both traditional and contemporary worship or a willingness to expand that knowledge base
• A working knowledge of the Episcopal tradition in regards to the Church year and liturgical flow
• Skilled Organist, Pianist, or Vocalist
• Proven ability to provide musical leadership
• Pass a basic employee background check and standard Episcopal Safe Church training
• Adhere to the Canons of the Episcopal Church as applicable, the bylaws of St. Mary’s, and any office and employee policies as set by St. Mary’s

Compensation

• Part time with 20 hours a week
• 4 Weeks vacation
• Sick leave
